Ahmedabad: India under skipper Rohit Sharma won the tri-match ODI cricket series after winning the second match and leading at 2-0 at Narendra Modi Stadium, here, on Wednesday. Surrendering nine wickets, India put forward a total of 238 in 50 overs, but West Indies (WI) under Nicholas Pooran couldn't make it at the tough pitch, which favoured bouncers.

After winning the toss, Caribbeans sent hosts to bat, probably judging the pitch. Indian squad opened with skipper Rohit and power hitter Rishabh Pant. However, WI's Kemar Roach didn't leave Rohit (5 from 8) to settle down, sending him to keeper's gloves. Virat Kohli came as the third man in and went with his classic drives, adding 30 runs with Pant. But Kohli fell at 18 from 30 balls, clearing three boundaries. His wicket was taken by Odean Smith, who took Pant (18 from 34) as well, who also cleared three boundaries.

Later, KL Rahul and Surayakumar Yadav took the reign and added 91 runs together, but a miscommunication took Rahul in a runout. He was at 49, with four boundaries and two sixes. After that, Yadav (64 from 83) met his half-ton, and added 43 runs with Washington Sundar (24), who also kept a fair battle. In the tail end, Deepak Hooda played a cameo with 29 runs, and Yuvendra Chahal managed to save India from all out.

During the chase, WI started well, but the lucky star rose only over Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna (4/12 in 9 overs). His well-placed bouncers made the WI pay the price. The visitors' better stand in the beginning crashed down after Krishna sent the first two batters in his successive overs. After that, Windies batters kept their guard against him, giving him three maidens out of nine overs he bowled. In his second spell, he took WI's dangerous captain Nicholas Pooran (9).

Later, Shardul Thakur took experienced Jason Holder (2), and Randeep Hooda took his maiden wicket, dismissing settled Sharmath Brooks (44). Windies tail end smashed the ball to the boundary and over the fences, hinting at a comeback, but it didn't turn out well.
