Gaza conflict: foreign minister S Jaishankar calls for 2-state solution
text_fieldsKampala/Uganda: Referring to the Gaza conflict, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar commented that terrorism and taking hostages are unacceptable, saying that all states must respect international humanitarian law.
Delivering India's National Statement at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, Jaishankar insisted on the importance of a sustainable solution in the region, alleviating the humanitarian crisis, Asian News International reported.
Jaishankar said that it is imperative that the conflict in the enclave must not spread within or beyond the region.
He reiterated that India is with the two-state solution for the Gaza conflict, saying that the Palestinian people must be able to live inside secure borders. "Our collective endeavours should focus on making this realisable," ANI quoted him.
Jaishankar said that global issues are interconnected and that the growth and progress of countries depend on peace and stability. In a world of globalised existence, conflicts anywhere have consequences everywhere.
He pointed out how the Ukraine conflict had impacted the supply of fuel, food and fertiliser.
Al Jazeera reported on Friday that leaders of NAM countries condemned Israel's military campaign on the Gaza Strip. They demanded an immediate ceasefire during the summit of the 120 countries.
Cuba said that the world has been witnessing one of the cruellest genocidal acts ever to be recorded by history.
On NAM entering the seventh decade, Jaishankar urged boldness in seeking due recognition and pressing demands. He also called for collaboration and reinforcement among NAM member states, saying that shared efforts will bring positive change across the world.
