Venky Atluri says actors should adapt to the work culture of the industry they join

Filmmaker Venky Atluri has said actors working in a different film industry should first understand its work culture and adapt to it before making demands.
Speaking during the promotion of his upcoming film "Viswanath and Sons", Atluri said he would take time to understand the working style of a new industry before beginning a project.
"I'll at least take a three month break. I'll study sets. It's a very simple old saying; when in Rome, do as the Romans do. It goes the same way for a Hindi actor coming to Telugu cinema. When you come to Telugu, you have to work according to a Telugu mindset," he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India.
Atluri said the Telugu film industry generally follows a disciplined work schedule, with call times around 7 am or 8 am and work continuing until about 6 pm. He said actors may spend around 10 hours on set, while the overall shoot can last 11 to 12 hours, adding that schedules can be discussed depending on the production's requirements.
"When a person from any industry, let it be from Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, come and act in a Telugu film, it is important to understand the work culture here and maybe respect that culture," he said.
Referring to working in Bollywood, Atluri said he would first learn the industry's working conditions instead of expecting everyone to follow his preferred schedule.
"I will work according to Bollywood's working conditions. I will learn the conditions. I'll not just jump in and say I'm starting at 8, everybody will be here by 8. I'll understand the culture and the working conditions of the 24 crafts. Only then will I start," he said.
Atluri's "Viswanath and Sons", starring Suriya, Raveena Tandon and Mamitha Baiju, is scheduled to release in theatres on August 14.
His remarks come nearly a year after Deepika Padukone stepped away from "Spirit" and the sequel to "Kalki 2898 AD" following reports of differences over work hours after becoming a mother.
