Hyderabad: The teaser release time of the highly anticipated film "Salaar," directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Prabhas, has caught the attention of fans and many are speculating a connection to a significant event in the life of Rocky Bhai, the protagonist of the KGF series.
This has also sparked speculation that both films are set in the same cinematic universe. The KGF series was the directorial debut of Prashanth Neel.
The makers have announced that the teaser of the film will be unveiled on July 6 at 5:12 AM. While this may have gone unnoticed by many, those who did take note don't think it a mere coincidence.
However, if the connection holds true, it would serve as evidence that "Salaar" shares the same universe as KGF. The time coincides with the moment Rocky Bhai's fate took a dramatic turn in KGF. The climax of KGF 2 depicted Rocky Bhai's plunge into the ocean, leaving audiences debating whether he met his demise. During this pivotal scene, the clock on the wall displayed the time as 5:12 AM, precisely when the teaser for "Salaar" will be unveiled.
The emergence of interconnected cinematic universes appears to be a growing trend among filmmakers, with repeated characters and hidden references linking various films. Prashanth Neel could potentially establish his own star-studded universe akin to the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) created by director Lokesh Kanagaraj, which featured memorable characters portrayed by Karthi, Suriya, and Kamal Haasan. The powerful personas of Yash's Rocky Bhai and Prabhas' Salaar hold the potential to form a similarly captivating universe. It remains to be seen who will join this realm if it continues to expand.
However, for the existence of a definitive Prashanth Neel Universe, official confirmation is required. The makers of Salaar have yet to confirm whether the film is set in the same universe as KGF. Nonetheless, the numerous hints and resemblances between the two films suggest a plausible connection.
Factors supporting the speculation include Prashanth Neel serving as the director for both KGF and Salaar, implying a shared universe. Salaar's titular character is also believed to be a formidable and ruthless gangster like Rocky Bhai in KGF. The teaser for Salaar showcases Prabhas standing in front of a mining town, reminiscent of KGF's setting. The teaser also suggests a similar early 20th-century period, aligning with the timeline of KGF.
Although these clues alone do not confirm the shared universe, they do present a compelling case.
In an interview with the Indian Express, director Prashanth Neel said that Salaar is "not a sequel to KGF" but does exist "in the same universe," hinting at hidden Easter eggs that will connect the two films.
In the first look, Prabhas was seen in front of a mining town wearing traditional attire and exuding a fierce demeanor. A montage of adrenaline-pumping action sequences was also seen. It concluded with Prabhas' commanding voiceover, proclaiming, "I am Salaar." Fans think it is going to be an "action-packed performance" and "visual extravaganza".
Salaar is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 28, 2023. The film will be presented as a pan-India release, with dubbed versions available in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
