Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders

Netflix has announced that Jamie Bell will lead the upcoming sequel series to Peaky Blinders. The actor is set to play Duke Shelby, the son of Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. A first-look image of Bell in the role has also been released.

The cast of the new series will also include Charlie Heaton, known for Stranger Things, along with Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and newcomer Lucy Karczewski. The project has been created by Stephen Knight, who also helmed the original series.

Set in 1950s Birmingham in the United Kingdom, the sequel will continue the story of Duke Shelby, previously introduced in the final season and portrayed by Barry Keoghan in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, as he attempts to rebuild a city devastated by World War II, triggering conflict among rival factions, TNIE reported.

Knight reportedly expressed excitement about launching a new chapter of the story in post-war Birmingham and noted that the team felt fortunate to have Bell take on the role of Duke Shelby, with Heaton also playing a leading part.

He added that more casting announcements were expected and suggested that the franchise was moving forward with renewed momentum.

In addition to creating and writing the series, Knight serves as an executive producer alongside Murphy and others, including Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Mona Qureshi, and Toby Bentley. The project is backed by Kudos and the BBC.

The original series aired for six seasons between 2013 and 2022, chronicling the rise of the Shelby family and their gang led by Tommy Shelby. A follow-up film, again featuring Murphy, was later set during World War II.
