The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were unveiled on Tuesday, setting the stage for one of the most competitive Oscar seasons in recent years.

Nominees across 24 categories were announced by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman during a live broadcast from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Los Angeles.

The announcement aired on ABC’s Good Morning America and was simultaneously streamed on the Oscars’ official YouTube channel.

Sinners Emerges as the Most-Nominated Film

Leading the nominations is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which emerged as the most-nominated film of the year with 16 nominations.

The film is a major contender in top categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo), and Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku).

It also received extensive recognition across technical and craft categories such as Cinematography, Editing, Sound, Visual Effects, Production Design, Costume Design, Make-Up and Hairstyling, as well as Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Casting, and Best Original Song, marking it as a dominant force across both creative and technical branches.

Strong Showing for One Battle After Another and Marty Supreme

Close behind is Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. The film also secured two nominations in Best Supporting Actor (Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn), alongside nods for Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Sound, Production Design, Cinematography, Best Casting, and Original Score.

Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme earned nine nominations, featuring prominently in Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet. It was also recognised for Original Screenplay, Editing, Cinematography, Costume Design, Production Design, and Best Casting, underscoring its strong technical and storytelling appeal.

Frankenstein and Sentimental Value Score Big Across Categories

Frankenstein secured nine nominations, spanning Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Jacob Elordi), and Best Adapted Screenplay, while also dominating craft categories including Cinematography, Production Design, Sound, Costume Design, Make-Up and Hairstyling, and Original Score.

Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value also picked up nine nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Renate Reinsve), Best Supporting Actor (Stellan Skarsgård), and two Best Supporting Actress nominations. The film further earned nods for Original Screenplay, Editing, and Best International Feature Film, making it one of the strongest crossover international contenders.

Literary Adaptations and Global Cinema Shine

Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet received eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Jessie Buckley, along with recognition for Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Costume Design, Production Design, and Best Casting.

The Best International Feature Film category showcased strong global representation with submissions from Brazil, France, Norway, Spain, and Tunisia. Notably, Brazil’s The Secret Agent and Norway’s Sentimental Value also earned multiple nominations in major categories outside the international field, reflecting broad Academy support.

No Indian Representation This Year

There are no Indian films, actors, or official submissions nominated at the 2026 Academy Awards. India does not feature in the International Feature Film category, nor are Indian artists represented in acting, technical, or music categories this year.

Ceremony Details

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on 15 March 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with comedian and television host Conan O’Brien set to host the event.
