Mullum Malarum actress posts divorce photoshoot, says it is ok to leave a bad marriage
text_fieldsChennai: Tamil actress Shalini, known for soap opera Mullum Malarum and reality show Super Mom, recently posted photographs of her celebrating her divorce. The actress did a photoshoot to send a powerful message.
In a red dress, she was seen holding a banner declaring herself divorced. In another photo, she was seen tearing up her wedding photograph. In another, she held a poster that said: "I've got 99 problems, but a husband ain't one."
Calling out the South Asian culture that deems a divorced woman a failure, she said that it is okay to leave a bad marriage and asserted that divorce is not a failure.
"Divorced woman’s message to those who feel voiceless: It’s okay to leave a bad marriage cause you deserve to be happy and never settle for less, take control of your lives and make the changes necessary to create a better future for yourself and your children. DIVORCE is NOT a FAILURE!!! It’s a turning point for you and to lead positive changes in your lives. It takes a lot of courage to leave a marriage and stand alone. So to all my BRAVE WOMEN out there, I dedicate this," she wrote.
As expected, the Instagram post was flooded with misogynistic comments. But, at the same time, she also received support and love from many fans and a mostly women audience.
