Illegal circulation of Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’; 6 arrested

Chennai: The much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan starring Vijay has been hit by a major piracy breach even before its theatrical release, with key scenes leaking online in high definition. The incident has sent shockwaves through the film industry.

Producers KVN Productions confirmed that legal action has been initiated, and six persons have been arrested by the cybercrime department for illegally circulating leaked footage. The makers had warned that anyone downloading, sharing, or forwarding the clips through social media or digital platforms will face criminal prosecution.

The leaked content reportedly includes the film’s intro sequence, title card, and song visuals. Clips from the nearly three-hour-long film have been cut and widely circulated online, raising concerns about the impact on its box office prospects.

The leak comes at a critical time, as the film is yet to complete censor certification. The Central Board of Film Certification has reportedly objected to certain political references and scenes, refusing clearance unless changes are made. The makers were preparing for a legal battle to secure release when the leak surfaced.

Originally slated for a Pongal release on January 9, the film had generated massive pre-release buzz due to its political theme and scale. With an estimated budget of around ₹500 crore and plans for release across 5,000 screens worldwide, the project is considered one of the biggest in Vijay’s career.

Directed by H Vinoth, the film also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju in key roles.

Fans have urged strict action against piracy, calling the leak a direct threat to the film industry and appealing for audiences to watch the film only in theatres. The controversy unfolds as Vijay prepares to take an active role in his political outfit, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, adding further attention to the film’s release.
