Los Angeles: In an auction here, the original animatronic model of E.T. in Steven Spielberg's classic sci-fi movie "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" has been sold for a huge sum of $2.6 million, Agence France-Presse reported.

There was a two-day mega-sale of the item, put on by Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies, along with other 1,300 plus movie props. These include Robert DeNiro's Raging Bull boxing gloves and Chris Hemsworth's Thor hammer.

But what made huge from the auction was the E.T. prop, "whose glowing finger and childlike innocence melted hearts in 1982, before the age of ubiquitous computer-generated imagery," writes AFP.

The E.T. prop has 85 mechanical joints, and almost everything on it moves. The eyes, the neck and its pointy fingers are iconic from the movie, and they are mobile.

Further, a maquette of E.T. got sold for $125,000, and one of the bikes used in the movie for a cinematic getaway scene sold for $115,000, AFP reports.

The auction conducted at Beverly Hills also auctioned the staff that Charlton Heston used to part the Red Sea in "The Ten Commandments", which went for $448,000. Then the Nimbus 2000 broomstick from the Harry Potter film series, used by Daniel Radcliffe, fetched $128,000.
