Mumbai: International Emmy Awards-winning crime-drama Delhi Crime is back with a second season. The trailer released on Monday revealed that DCP Vartika Chaturvedi and her team will be chasing the infamous Kaccha Baniyan gang.

Shefali Shah will be reprising the role of police officer respectfully addressed Madam Sir. She said the character is special to her. "I'm so proud of the role and 'Delhi Crime' as a show. It's my favourite. And so is she. As an actor, it's fulfilling to portray roles like these." The first season of the show was based on the 2012 Delhi gang rape case.

Speaking about the second season, Shah said the audience will see a human and vulnerable side of these seasoned police officers. "I can proudly say this, Delhi Crime is a reflection of our passion for storytelling and the craft and we can't wait for the audience to watch it!"

Kaccha Baniyan gangs are criminal groups known for attacking homeowners and robbing them. During the crime, they only wear underclothes and face masks. They often cover themselves with oil or mud to protect their identities. These gangs were known to conceal themselves as beggars or common labourers during the day while they spot vulnerable houses and plot their attacks.

Inspired by true events in the city, the show is directed by Tanuj Chopra and sheds light on the moral code of the Delhi Police. "DCP Vartika Chaturvedi and the team have evolved from the previous season. We'll see them weigh a lot of difficult choices... be it procedural or emotional," said Shah.

In the trailer, the officials are seen talking about the signs murders leave behind.

The show also stars Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Anurag Arora, Yashaswini Dayama, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Gopal Dutt, Denzil Smith, Tillotama Shome, Jatin Goswami, Vyom Yadav, and Ankit Sharma.

The second season will start streaming on Netflix on August 26, 2022.
