Camps in Bollywood have been there forever, says Taapsee Pannu
text_fieldsMumbai: Actress Taapsee Pannu said that she has accepted the existence of camps in the film industry and still chosen to be part of it. She was supposedly reacting to Priyanka Chopra's statements about major studios dictating casting.
When she was asked about Bollywood camps, Taapsee said that is not something people don't know about and it has been there forever. "It can be the basis of an actor's friend circle, a certain agency or group that they’re a part of and people’s loyalties differ based on that."
She clarified that she holds no grudge against Bollywood or blames the industry for being biased toward outsiders. "Everyone has the right to choose who they want to work within their films." She added that she cannot blame anyone for thinking about their own careers.
The Pink actress said she was always aware that the industry is going to be "biased and unfair" but refuses to let that make her a "bitter person". The 35-year-old said she knew what she was getting into and for her, "the rule for the game is that the tide will be against her most of the time." She added: "And if after all that, you still decide to be a part of this industry, then it’s your choice and you can’t complain about it later."
She also said that all industries, except for sports perhaps, have camps and favouritism to some extent. "People who come to the film with no background have to consistently keep doing good work for years and years, and have to keep proving themselves with every film to have a standing of their own."
Taapsee did not mention Priyanka or her remarks on how casting works in Bollywood.
