Advisory issued to Diljit Dosanjh against alcohol-themed songs at Chandigarh concert
text_fieldsThe Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued an advisory to singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, urging him to avoid performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence during his live concert scheduled for December 14, 2024, at the Exhibition Ground in Sector-34, Chandigarh.
CCPCR Chairperson Shipra Bansal specifically mentioned tracks like Patiala Peg, 5 Tara, and Case, advising against their performance or any modified versions that could still propagate themes detrimental to children. “These songs influence children of impressionable age,” the advisory stated.
The commission also referenced World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, noting that sound levels above 120 decibels are harmful to children and advising against inviting them on stage during the show. Additionally, the advisory reminded organizers to ensure compliance with laws prohibiting alcohol service to individuals under 25 years of age, in line with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
This advisory follows a similar directive issued during Dosanjh's Hyderabad performance last month, where he was cautioned against promoting alcohol and drugs and restricted from inviting children on stage due to the potential harm caused by loud sounds and flashing lights. The India leg of Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour began in October 2024 in Delhi.
Separately, Chandigarh BJP's former president Arun Sood led a delegation requesting a venue change for the concerts of Diljit Dosanjh on December 14 and Punjabi rapper A.P. Dhillon on December 21. The group proposed shifting the events from Sector-34 Exhibition Ground to Sector-25 Rally Ground to prevent traffic congestion and minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses.
Sood cited the recent Karan Aujla concert in the same venue as a cause of significant disruption, stating, “We are not against music concerts but are concerned about the venue.” He emphasized his support for Punjabi music and artists but highlighted the need to balance public convenience.
A copy of the advisory has been forwarded to relevant authorities, including the Chandigarh Excise and Taxation Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police, to ensure compliance with the directives aimed at protecting children and addressing logistical challenges for the event.
