Gopichand Hinduja tops UK's rich list for sixth year

London: Gopichand Hinduja, the chairperson of the Hinduja Group, has topped the UK's Sunday Times Rich List once again.
His wealth increased by about £2.196 billion in 2024, reaching a total of £37.196 billion.
Known as 'GP' in business circles, Gopichand Hinduja, born in 1940, leads the multinational conglomerate Hinduja Group and Hinduja Automotive Ltd, UK. The conglomerate has interests in various industries, including trucks, lubricants, banking, and cable television.
Gopichand is the second son of Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, who started the family business in 1914 in the Sindh region of India. The Hinduja Group's official site credits Gopichand with transforming the business from an Indo-Middle East trading operation into a multi-billion dollar transnational conglomerate.
Joining the family business in Mumbai in 1959, Gopichand took over as chairman after his older brother, Srichand Hinduja, passed away last year in May. The 87-year-old is a graduate of Bombay's Jai Hind College and holds an Honorary Doctorate of Law from the University of Westminster and an Honorary Doctorate of Economics from Richmond College, London.
Gopichand is one of four brothers, including Srichand, Prakash, and Ashok, who collectively owned the family business internationally.
In second place on the rich list is Leonard Blavatnik, a British American businessman and philanthropist, whose wealth rose by £621 million, bringing his total to £29.246 billion.
