New Delhi: Jet Airways is getting geared to operate its commercial over the next few months. The airline has been granted the mandatory security clearance by the Union Home Ministry, according to an official document, reported PTI.

Currently promoted by the Jalan-Kalrock Consortium, the airline was earlier owned by Naresh Goyal and had operated its last flight on April 17, 2019.

Bedevilled by cash crunch, the once popular airline after two decades of operations had to ground its aircraft rendering its nearly 20,000 workforce jobless.

Jet Airways also had a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways.

The airline initially started cancelling flights, cutting routes, grounding planes, and handing pink slips to employees due to the cash crunch. In June 2019, insolvency proceedings were initiated for the airline.

Last Thursday, the airline conducted its test flight to and from the Hyderabad airport in a step towards obtaining the air operator certificate.

A letter sent by the civil aviation ministry to the airline on May 6 informed it about the grant of the security clearance by the Union Home Ministry.

The letter said, it is "directed to refer to your application… to convey security clearance for change in shareholding pattern of the company/firm, for scheduled operator permit, on the basis of security clearance received from the Ministry of Home Affairs".

In October 2020, the airline's Committee of Creditors approved the resolution plan of the consortium of the UK's Kalrock Capital and the UAE-based entrepreneur Murari Lal Jalan. The National Company Law Tribunal approved the resolution plan in June 2021.
