Rome: The government in Italy, under newly elected Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, informed that it wishes to increase cooperation with Saudi Arabia on energy, investment and human rights, Arab News reported.

PM Meloni paid her thanks to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the congratulatory messages they sent her on Sunday.

Meloni said that Italy has a strong interest in the stability of the Middle East.

Arab News quoted her, "Italy is strongly interested in the stability of the Middle East and in further cooperation on energy, investments and human rights."

Italian Prime Minister's office informed Arab News that Saudi's congratulation messages were the first among those to arrive just after the PM was sworn in.

Italian PMO further said that its government is concentrating on maintaining the best relationship with Saudi Arabia, satisfying the interests of both nations for a very long time.

The year 2022 marks the milestone of 90 years of establishing diplomatic relations between the powers.

Recently, Saudi announced its plans for several initiatives to celebrate the occasion. Ambassador Faisal bin Sattam Abdulaziz Al-Saud had briefed the Secretary-General of Italy's Foreign Ministry, Ettore Sequi, about the Saudi Embassy in Rome planning for the same.
