Moscow: The Euro Weekly News reported that there was a failed attempt to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin. The report stated that the General GVR Telegram channel released the information on Wednesday, though more details of the incident, like when or where, are not clear, NDTV reported.

There were rumours about Putin's health and the threat to his life since Russia initiated an invasion of Ukraine. In 2017, Putin claimed that he survived at least five assassination attempts.

The Telegram channel further said that Putin's car's front wheel was hit, and a loud bang was heard. The vehicle was driven to safety. Though the President was unharmed, some arrests were made.

Putin was travelling to his official residence in a decoy motorcade, news.co.au reported. The decoy motorcade was set up due to security concerns.

"On the way to the residence, a few kilometres away, the first escort car was blocked by an ambulance, the second escort car drove around without stopping (due to the) sudden obstacle, and during the detour of the obstacle," news.co.au quoted.

The new revelation by the channel came when a team of politicians from St Petersburg appealed before the State Duma to burden Putin with state treason charges and strip him of his powers. They cited the military losses in Ukraine as well as the damage the invasion done to the economy after sanctions from the West.

NDTV reports that 65 municipal representatives from St. Petersburg, Moscow and other regions signed a petition on Monday demanding Putin's resignation.
