US ceasefire unreasonable after repeated violations’: Iran

Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Wednesday that a ceasefire and negotiations with the United States were not reasonable, citing violations of Iran’s 10-point truce proposal.

He pointed to continued attacks in Lebanon, a drone intrusion into Iranian airspace, and the denial of Iran’s right to uranium enrichment as key breaches.

Ghalibaf stated that Iran’s longstanding distrust of the United States was rooted in what he described as repeated failures to honour commitments, adding that this pattern had occurred again.

He argued that the basis for negotiations had already been undermined even before talks could begin, making any bilateral ceasefire or dialogue unjustifiable under such conditions, AP reported.

Iran accused the United States of violating three provisions of its proposed framework for an agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi maintained that halting the conflict in Lebanon was an essential part of the ceasefire understanding with Washington. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump stated that the truce did not extend to Lebanon, AFP reported.

“The world sees the massacres in Lebanon,” he said in a post on X. “The ball is in the US court, and the world is watching whether it will act on its commitments.”

Following the developments, Iran later announced that it would again suspend the movement of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz in response to the attacks in Lebanon, according to state media.

At a press conference in Beijing, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli Iran’s ambassador to China called on Iran’s key allies and the United Nations to help ensure the country’s long-term security as part of any agreement to end hostilities with the United States. Similar requests, however, have been made previously without yielding concrete outcomes.

Responding to questions about China’s role, foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China hoped all parties would resolve their differences through dialogue and negotiation.
