Ukraine fights off Russian missile and drone attacks, Moscow reports downing 33 drones from Kyiv

Kyiv: Ukraine announced on Sunday that it successfully repelled two missile strikes and thwarted 20 drone attacks overnight, while Russia claimed it downed 33 drones launched from Ukraine.
In a statement, the Ukrainian Air Force stated, "The Russian occupying forces attacked with the Iskander-K cruise missile, the Kh-59 guided air missile..., as well as 20 Shahed-type strike drones." Ukraine's forces managed to intercept the drones and the Kh-59 missile, with the Iskander-K cruise missile failing to reach its target.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the missiles were launched from Crimea and the occupied Kherson region. However, there was no mention of casualties or damage caused by the attacks.
In response, Russia declared that it had thwarted 33 drone attacks across the Lipetsk, Rostov, and Volgograd regions, as confirmed by the Russian defence ministry. The statement noted that these unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed or intercepted by Russian air defence systems.
Drone assaults have become a near-daily occurrence in Russia's border regions, although large-scale attacks are less frequent. Notably, Ukrainian drones have targeted not only border regions but also areas around Moscow.
Conversely, Russia has consistently bombarded various towns in Ukraine. Just last week, a significant drone strike targeted southern Ukraine, while ballistic missiles were launched at Kyiv, resulting in approximately 50 people sustaining injuries from falling debris.
