UK the ‘first truly Islamist state with nuclear weapons’: Trump’s VP pick

New York: The former US President Donald Trump's running mate J D Vance said that United Kingdom under 'the Labour Government' is the first ‘truly Islamist’ country with nuclear weapons.

Vance’s comment comes days after Donald Trump was attacked during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump’s running mate made the comments last week at a conference for UK Conservatives.

He said he had discussed with a friend the first "truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon".

"Maybe it's Iran, maybe Pakistan kind of counts, and then we sort of decided maybe it's actually the UK since Labour just took over," he was quoted as saying.

However, Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner accused Vance of having a history of making ‘fruity’ remarks.

Rayner said "I don't recognise that characterisation", adding Britain will work with whoever wins the November's US presidential election.

"We're interested in governing on behalf of Britain, and also working with our international allies," she was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Trump’s Vice Presidential pick called China the biggest threat to America.

During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday, Vance said Trump, negotiating with Moscow and Kyiv, will ‘bring this thing to a rapid close so American can focus on the real issue, which is China’.

"That's the biggest threat to our country and we are completely distracted from it," he was quoted as saying.

Vance, 39, gained attention after reports that he would be Trump’s running mate in the upcoming polls.
