Trump shares Shehbaz’s UN speech crediting him for Op Sindoor truce

Washington: US President Donald Trump has shared a video of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech at the United Nations in which the Pakistani leader credited Trump's intervention with helping halt the military confrontation between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
Trump shared the 87-second clip on his Truth Social account on Friday, September 25, without adding any comment. In the video, Sharif describes India's military action following the Pahalgam terror attack as external aggression and praises Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir for what he called his courageous leadership.
Sharif also expressed gratitude to Trump for his leadership and intervention, saying it helped prevent further loss of life in South Asia.
Trump had made a similar claim in his address to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, saying he had helped resolve eight conflicts, including the India-Pakistan confrontation.
According to Trump, Sharif had credited him with saving 30 million lives in South Asia. Trump also said that nearly all the countries he referred to in his UN speech had sent him letters thanking him for his role in resolving conflicts.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed.
New Delhi has rejected Trump's claims of having brokered the cessation of military action. India has maintained that the halt followed a request from Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations to his Indian counterpart. The Ministry of External Affairs has said the understanding to stop military activities was reached directly between the two DGMOs.
The Indian government has also stated that Pakistan's DGMO approached his Indian counterpart on May 10, 2025, seeking a cessation of firing and military activities, after which both sides agreed to halt operations.
