Tibetans celebrate Republic Day, express gratitude to India
text_fieldsDharamsala: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day on Sunday, marking the historic day in 1950 when the Indian Constitution came into effect.
The celebration, held at the CTA headquarters in Dharamsala, was graced by officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma Changra, Education Minister, Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, and Norzin Dolma, Minister for Information and International Relations. Senior CTA officials, including secretaries, also participated in the event.
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the Indian national flag, followed by a heartfelt address from Tharlam Dolma Changra, who, on behalf of the Tibetan community, extended warm greetings to the Indian government and its people.
Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang highlighted the occasion's significance, stating, “Republic Day, celebrated on January 26 each year, commemorates the adoption of India’s Constitution in 1950. It is a day of immense national pride, symbolizing the democratic foundation and the principles of justice, liberty, and equality enshrined in the Constitution.”

Dolma lauded India’s democratic ideals and practices, calling the country a beacon of democracy for its neighbors. “India exemplifies unity in diversity. With its vast population, diverse languages, religions, and cultures, India demonstrates the true beauty of democracy. Since gaining independence, India has witnessed smooth transitions in leadership and the progressive evolution of its Constitution, ensuring inclusivity and advancement.”
She further encouraged Indians to take pride in their tradition of democratic values and governance.
The event concluded on a warm and celebratory note, with tea and doughnuts served to attendees, fostering a sense of camaraderie and solidarity as the Tibetan community reiterated their gratitude to India on this significant day.
