Technical glitches caused a forty-minute delay in an interview that Billionaire Elon Musk was conducting with former US President Donald Trump on his social media site X, (formerly Twitter). Mr Musk acknowledged the delay and said, "There appears to be a massive DDOS attack on X. Working on shutting it down. Worst case, we will proceed with a smaller number of live listeners and post the conversation later.”
The hashtags "#crashed" and "DDOS" quickly became popular on the microblogging site after a number of users were unable to log in. Meanwhile, X users started a meme fest on the internet.
"The best part about Twitter Spaces is how well it works," said a user, NDTV reported.
Another added, "I'm in the Spaces. It hasn't started yet. It seems the whole world is trying to get into this Spaces lol, so technical difficulties are expected.”
"The only site reliability engineer left at Twitter when Elon said he wanted to do another presidential candidate interview using Spaces," commented a person.
A person wrote, "I was really hoping they were well prepared for this one. Would have been a really good look for X. I'm definitely disappointed and I won't be listening to the replay. Spaces just aren't special as reruns. They need to figure that out.”
"Oh well. It's hard to let in 20 million plus at one time. Cry more. It's on now and going smoothly," said a person.
The goal of the two men's talk was to revitalise Trump's faltering campaign after Vice President Joe Biden withdrew from the contest. Since a shooter attempted to kill the Republican at a rally last month, Musk, who has admitted that he formerly supported Democrats, has put his support—as well as his wealth—behind Trump. Aside from the fact that Musk let go of large numbers of employees, the apparent technical issues also brought to light the fact that the Tesla CEO had previously backed Trump opponent Ron DeSantis, whose campaign launch on the platform was marred by issues.
