Officials report at least 10 people killed in Israeli attacks in West Bank
text_fieldsWest Bank: Palestinian health officials reported that an Israeli airstrike in the northern West Bank killed a9 upt least ten people late Wednesday.
Israel used a jet fighter to hit the remote village of Tamoun late Wednesday, marking the latest escalation in its increasing assault on Palestinian militants in the occupied territories, AP reported.
Tamoun residents reported that an airstrike struck a house in a densely populated neighbourhood. The Palestinian Health Ministry warned that the death toll was likely to increase.
Hamas issued a statement mourning the individuals murdered in Tamoun but did not identify them as members. It urged Palestinians in Israel and the occupied West Bank to unite against Israel in order to make it "pay the price for its crimes."
The precarious ceasefire between Israel and Hamas aims to stop the war in Gaza and secure the release of dozens of Hamas captives, as well as hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli custody. The truce does not extend to the West Bank.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have returned to northern Gaza in celebration over the last three days due to the truce.
However, their return has been bittersweet because nearly everyone has friends or relatives who have died, and many northern neighbourhoods have been transformed into an apocalyptic landscape of devastation after more than 15 months of war.
