Karachi: The Karachi police on Thursday arrested a gang involving a go-down owner, a worker, and a policeman for stealing cooking oil using a police van, ARY News reported.

A raid near the Garden Headquarters yesterday revealed there were over five members in the gang, police told media.

The armed men of the gang using police van looted goods vehicles that transported cooking oil in District Central, according to the report.

After each robbery, the gang stored the cooking oil in the go-down, the report said adding that dozens of similar looting incidents were reported last month.

Police were able to nab two persons acting on a tip-off arresting suspects Ashraf alias Achho and Asif for leading a gang that committed robberies in the Defence and Clifton region of Karachi here.

The three members of the Achho gang whom the police arrested were most wanted, said Ahmed Chaudhry, superintendent of Police (SP) Clifton.

Alongside revealing the gang’s oil looting, the police recovered large quantities of jewellery and other expensive items totalling millions of dollars.

Police seized the implements used by thieves for their operations that were continuing for 16 years causing significant losses to the residents, according to the report.

One of the gang’s accomplices Khurshid is in jail for committing similar crimes, the officer said.
