Washington: An Iranian opposition blueprint for post-regime governance proposes reviving the Chabahar Port project with India and resuming long-term crude oil exports to the world's fastest-growing major energy market.

This "Emergency Phase Booklet" from the 178-page Iran Prosperity Project outlines how a transitional government could stabilize Iran's economy and foreign policy in the first six months after the Islamic Republic's fall.

The plan highlights India as a vital economic and strategic partner, aiming to rebuild trade and draw global investment amid years of sanctions.

It pledges renewed cooperation with New Delhi on Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran, positioning it as a hub linking the Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, and Central Asia. For India, the port offers a strategic bypass to Afghanistan and Central Asia via Pakistan.

The blueprint also seeks to restore oil exports to India, once a top buyer before U.S. sanctions disrupted trade.

In its geopolitical outlook, Iran would treat India as a key Asian ally while rebalancing ties with powers like China and Russia—reviewing agreements for transparency and mutual benefit. It calls for deeper engagement with neighbors like Pakistan on border security, counterterrorism, and curbing militancy.

Exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran's last monarch, leads the effort, uniting technocrats, academics, and diaspora figures to restore institutions, steady the economy, and pave the way for elections and constitutional reform.

Iran's location between the Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, and Central Asia positions it as a potential commercial crossroads post-sanctions, the document argues.

India has invested over $120 million in Chabahar's Shahid Beheshti terminal to boost trade routes to Afghanistan and Eurasia, though progress has stalled due to sanctions, funding issues, and regional tensions.

Reviving Chabahar and India energy trade would herald Iran's economic reopening and global reintegration, the plan's authors say.
