Indian woman goes missing after arriving in US for arranged marriage

New York: Police in New Jersey have requested people to supply any inputs about the whereabouts of an Indian woman who went missing days after arrival in the US.
Simran Simran, 24, arrived in New Jersey on June 20 for an arranged marriage, NDTV reported citing authorities.
Simran is reported to have gone missing on Wednesday, five days after her arrival.
Lindenwold police after reviewing surveillance footage said that Simran was seen checking her phone, while seemingly waiting for someone.
Simran who speaks no English, according to the police, has no known relatives in the United States.
She did not appear to be in distress in the surveillance footage that the police reviewed, officers said.
Following the preliminary probe, officials said that Simran arrived in the US for an arranged marriage.
Authorities are also focusing on the possibility of marriage as an excuse to get a free airfare to the US.
Her only phone is learnt to be an international device, which functions solely on Wi-Fi.
"At this time there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain information on her possible whereabouts," Lindenwold police said on Thursday.
Simran, who was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, white T-shirt, black flip-fops, diamond studded earrings, stands 5 feet 4 four inches tall, and weigh about 68 kg.
Officers said she had a small scar on the left side of her forehead.
