London: West Midlands Police requested residents in the area to identify the man who allegedly raped an Indian-origin woman in the Park Hall area of Walsall.

The incident came to light after police responded to calls that a woman was found in the street following a sexual assault and authorities released the CCTV footage of the suspected perpetrator.

Police said the woman had been raped at a nearby property by a man she did not know, adding that it was a white man in his 30s, with short hair, and was wearing dark clothing.

‘This was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman, and we are doing absolutely everything we can to arrest the person responsible,’ Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer reportedly said.

Seeking help to identify the man, the officer said that ‘Your information could be the vital breakthrough that we need’.

Addressing the fears stemming from the horrific incident, Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby said that ‘Walsall is a diverse area, and we know the fear and concern that this awful attack will cause. There will be an increased police presence in the coming days’.

Dabinderjit Singh OBE, Lead Executive of the Sikh Federation (UK) reportedly confirmed that the young woman, who was subjected to ‘a racially aggravated rape in Walsall’, is of Punjabi heritage.

The incident according to him follows similar ‘racially aggravated rape of a young Sikh woman on 9 September in Oldbury’.

Explaining further he said: ‘The attacker apparently followed her and broke down the door of the house where she was living. He was heard using the offensive P and B words during the rape. A neighbour also heard her screams during the vicious attack.’
