Following a sequence of powerful earthquakes that struck Japan, resulting in tsunami waves up to five feet high, the Indian Embassy in Tokyo swiftly set up an emergency control room to provide aid and relief.

Addressing the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Japan on January 1, 2024, the Indian Embassy in Japan has activated an emergency control room to assist individuals affected by the disaster. The Embassy released a statement, publicising several contact numbers and email addresses for those seeking assistance or relief.

The powerful earthquakes that shook central Japan and its western coast prompted alerts for residents to evacuate, causing power outages in numerous homes and disrupting transportation services in the affected region.

The initial earthquake registered a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 and generated approximately 1-metre-high waves along sections of the Sea of Japan coast, with expectations of larger waves, according to NHK, the country's public broadcaster.

Tsunami warnings were issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency for the coastal prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama. Russia also issued similar warnings for its far eastern cities of Vladivostok and Nakhodka.

Emergency Contact Details Provided by the Embassy:
