Former Nepal PM's wife suffers burn injuries as family’s home set ablaze
text_fieldsKathmandu: Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, the wife of Nepal's ex-prime minister Jhalanath Khanal, is reportedly recovering from burn injuries in a hospital, contrary to reports that she died.
Chitrakar was rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital after suffering burn injuries when Gen Z protesters set ablaze former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s home in Dallu area in the capital Kathmandu.
As the nation was descending into chaos with protesting young people began targeting government ministers, leading the country to complete lawlessness, Nepal's prime minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday.
Began as a protest against the government’s ban on social media, the situation has spiraled into broader criticism of the government, particularly pointing to accusation of corruption in the Himalayan country.
Oli administration chose the intractable path of suppression when the young people protested against blocking of social media.
In the ensuring police firing on the crowds 19 people were killed, thus spilling out boiling frustrations onto the streets.
In one of the violent scenes that followed Oli's finance minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, 65, was seen chased through the streets of the capital, according to NDTV.
As he was running for his life, Paudel was kicked and thrashed brutally.
In an attempt to becalm the young people the ban on social media was lifted on Monday night, which however did not stop the violence.
Protesters set fire to the homes of some of Nepal's top leaders and the parliament building.
Following which, army helicopters ferried some ministers to safe places and the airport in Katmandu was shut.
Though triggered by social media ban, the protest of Gen Z stemmed from the simmering anger against luxurious lifestyles of especially what is called Nepo Kids, the children of political leaders.
They allegedly enjoyed several advantages while most young people struggle to land in jobs.
