Erdogan again raises Kashmir issue during UNGA address

United Nations: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again raised the Kashmir issue during his address to world leaders at the high-level 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“In South Asia, it is important that all disputes, including the Kashmir issue, be addressed through dialogue within the framework of the UN Charter and relevant resolutions,” Erdogan said in his address on Tuesday, September 22.
This is not the first time Erdogan has raised the Kashmir issue during his UNGA address. In September last year, he had called for a resolution to the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly.
However, Erdogan did not mention Jammu and Kashmir in his UNGA speech in 2024.
In 2020, Erdogan referred to Jammu and Kashmir in his pre-recorded video statement to the General Debate.
India had then described the remarks as “completely unacceptable” and said Turkiye should respect the sovereignty of other nations and reflect more deeply on its own policies.
