Chinese man finds 10 grams of gold inside duck’s belly
text_fieldsBeijing: A Chinese man slaughtering a duck discovered gold worth about Rs 1.6 lakh inside its belly, in a bizarre stroke of fortune from Hunan province's Longhui County.
Liu found numerous small gold nuggets while butchering the bird, as reported by South China Morning Post and Xinwenfang. Initially puzzled, he verified them as genuine—totaling around 10 grams valued at 12,000 yuan (Rs 1.6 lakh). His family sees it as a sign of coming prosperity.
Liu suspects the free-range duck swallowed the gold while foraging near a riverside once famous for mining. The Chenshui River, flowing north-south through the county, drew gold prospectors from the 1970s-90s until private mining was banned.
Experts note animals can't digest or absorb gold, which passes through normally—but large or impure pieces risk blockages or poisoning in humans and animals.
Local officials say such finds aren't unheard of; last year, villagers panned over 10 grams from the same river while washing sand.
