Islamabad: Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to suspend her seven-year sentence in the Al-Qadir Trust case, citing recent eye surgery and post-operative needs, local media reported on Sunday.

The application, filed by counsel Salman Safdar ahead of the April 22 hearing by a division bench led by Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar, demands summoning the head of Ophthalmology at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi, plus jail officials with her full medical records, operation notes, diagnosis, and treatment history.

Bushra underwent retina surgery by Dr Nadeem Qureshi at the private Al-Shifa Eye Hospital this week, after transfer from Adiala Jail. She spent one night there before discharge, with follow-ups planned per medical advice.

The plea urges her immediate shift to Al-Shifa for supervised recovery and directs jail authorities to ensure unhindered access for counsel and family, per law and prior court orders.

It highlights her year-long pending appeal, "prolonged incarceration", repeated delays, counsel access denials, and "serious medical deterioration". Family learned of the surgery informally post-procedure, with no prior consultation or transparency, raising alarms over opacity in the process. Continued detention, it argues, serves "no useful purpose" and risks "irreparable harm".
