Bangladesh uprising: Seventh case filed against Sheikh Hasina
text_fieldsDhaka: Another murder case has been brought against the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, days after the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh opened an inquiry into her on allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity.
Hasina, former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, and thirty-two other people are named in the case as suspects in the Chattogram college student's killing, which occurred amid the anti-government student protests that rocked Bangladesh, the New Indian Express reported.
Tanvir Siddiqui's uncle, Mohammad Parvez, submitted a complaint at the Chandgaon Police Station early on Saturday morning, according to bdnews24. Tanvir, a student of Government Ashekane Awlia Degree College, was shot by Bangladeshi police on August 18 while taking part in student protests, according to the article that cited the case statement.
The article claims that Nowfel and Hasina gave the order to shoot. Later, Tanvir passed away in the hospital. On the same day, the police also fatally shot two other individuals in the same area, one of them being a student from Chattogram University.
After Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country amid widespread protests, a number of cases were brought against her and other government officials, the seventh of which was the murder case against Tanvir. In the last four days, five cases—four of which are murder cases—have been filed against Hasina in Dhaka.
Charges of torture and kidnapping are present in the other instance. In relation to the teacher's death during the student protests, a murder complaint was also filed in Bogura on Friday, according to bdnews24. Hasina and nine other people were the subject of an investigation by Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal into allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity that occurred between July 15 and August 5, during the student uprising against her administration.
