Bangkok: A daycare centre in Thailand's Nong Bua Lamphu district was attacked on Thursday, leaving at least 34 people—children and adults alike—dead and 12 others injured.

The shooter became enraged when he arrived at the daycare centre and did not see his child there; as a result, he opened fire and ploughed his car into a gathering of onlookers, according to the BBC.

After fleeing the day-care centre in a truck, he killed his wife and children before shooting himself dead, local media reported.

The gunman, who shot and stabbed people, was identified as former police officer Panya Khamrab who was sacked from the police force in connection with the drugs offence.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha offered condolences to the families of the victims.
