MUNICH: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio said Japan would host the 2023 Group of Sevens summit in Hiroshima on May 19-21.

Next year, Japan will hold the rotating presidency of the G-7 superpowers. Kishida is a legislator elected from a constituency in the western city of Japan that was bombed by a US atomic bomb in August 1945 at the end of World War II, according to the Arab News.

Kishida spoke to a news conference in Munich about the Hiroshima Summit, after attending the three-day G-7 summit in Schloss Elmau, Germany that "we'll make sure to deepen discussions on realistic measures toward the achievement of a world without nuclear weapons".

He stressed that at the Hiroshima Summit "We want to show the world a powerful commitment never to repeat the horror of nuclear weapons".

On domestic issues, Kishida said the government would help reduce electricity bills by creating an effective framework to mitigate tight electricity supplies and control power prices.
