Truecaller has expanded its call recording and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered transcription features to India, making them available for both Android and iOS users.

Originally launched in the US in June 2023, the feature is now being offered as a premium feature for paid subscribers of the app.

Users can now record incoming and outgoing calls directly within the Truecaller app, eliminating the need for third-party applications. The AI-powered transcription feature provides full transcriptions of recorded calls in English and Hindi languages, offering convenience to users.

On iOS devices, where third-party call recording is more restricted, Truecaller users need to access the Search page and tap "Record a call." This prompts the app to call a recording line, a special number provided by Truecaller. Users can then call the intended person and merge the two calls to initiate recording. All recorded calls are stored locally on the device, with the option to create a backup on iCloud.

For Android users, the process is more straightforward, with Truecaller's dialer featuring a dedicated recording button for starting and stopping recordings. Even if users don't use the app's dialer, a floating button for recording is available. Once a call concludes, a push notification indicates when the transcription is ready. Users can manage recordings by listening to them, renaming, deleting unwanted ones, or sharing them with other apps.

This premium feature is part of Truecaller's paid offerings, and users need to subscribe to the Truecaller Premium plan, starting at a monthly cost of Rs 75 and an annual price of Rs 529 in India.

While some smartphones, like Google Pixel 8 series and supported Samsung models, have built-in real-time call transcription features, Truecaller aims to provide this functionality to a wider user base through its app.
