Sundar Pichai, Google CEO calls for responsible regulation of technology

Sunder Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, stated on Monday that technology needs appropriate governance and that it is crucial for nations to protect their populations. He was giving a speech in Delhi at the Google for India 2022 event. Pichai's remark coincides with India's intention to adopt three new laws next year: the Telecom Bill, the Data Protection Bill, and the Digital India Act.

The Google CEO also recommended that the Indian government prepare laws that would allow businesses to innovate. "You are creating an innovative framework so that companies can innovate on top of a certainty in the legal framework," he said.

Ashwani Vaishnaw, the union's minister of telecom, who was also present at the occasion, stated that the three future legislation are moving in the correct path and that the legal and regulatory structure needs to keep up with modern society.

Later, Pichai pledged his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the G20 presidency of India. He informed the PM about Google's initiatives, including how it supports startups and small businesses, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI), according to reports.

Additionally, Google announced a $ 1 million grant to IIT Madras to establish India's first responsible artificial intelligence centre, as well as a $ 1 million donation to Wadhwani AI through Google.Org to use cutting-edge technology to improve agricultural outcomes, NIE reported.

Google, according to Pichai, is developing an artificial intelligence model that can handle voice and text searches in more than 100 Indian languages, enabling millions of people to access information in their native tongue.

Through its '75,000 crore India Digitization Fund,' which was formed at the end of 2020 to make access to the internet cheap, Google will concentrate on investing in women-led early-stage enterprises.
