No toilet rolls, rent not paid, kitchens closed: Twitter facing tough time
text_fieldsNew Delhi: When Elon Musk began laying off employees left and right, many thought he was exerting power for creating a sense of control over the newly acquired company.
Now the reports suggest that the social media company was already an economic backwater requiring some drastic remedial measures, when Musk took it over months ago.
Both Elon Musk and Twitter are going through toughest time imaginable in corporate sector with Musk losing $200 billion in net worth after taking over the microblogging site, according to India Today.
Musk is now working to turn around the company from the shambles it has plunged into by introducing several changes including cost cuts.
Despite dropping revenue and advertisers backing out, Musk reportedly still believes that the company is ‘on the fast lane to bankruptcy anymore’.
However reports suggest that the Twitter’s situation does not look very promising going by what is happening at the Twitter headquarters.
Twitter does not resemble the place it was when co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey was in charge. Musk fired nearly 50 per cent of the workforce including its top India executives including Parag Agrawal while retaining only those who are considered to be productive.
Musk is going to the extreme to cut cost doing away with even janitors who cleaned the toilets while making it mandatory for employees to bring their own toilet papers.
Reports say that Musk has sold all unwanted furniture, kitchen appliances to add what little he could to the money box of the ailing company.
He started off with turning the work culture upside down stopping work- from-anywhere policy issued by former CEO Dorsey, and bluntly asking employees who are not wishing to be part of tough work culture to quit. Employees are expected to be available whenever needed regardless of their day offs.
Musk also stopped offering free lunches, which costs around Rs 1 billion annually, to save money and stopped free snacks offered in its Indian offices. Now, to cut costs, Musk is going up to the limit of not paying rent for months, according to reports.
One reports says that Musk turned offices into bedrooms for employees to work day long.
Musk himself is reportedly working 24*7, 7 days a week closely with engineers to build Twitter 2.0 from scratch.
