Washington: Twitter CEO Elon Musk fired the platform's deputy general counsel James Baker for the latter's alleged role in information suppression under the previous management, Asian News International reported.

Musk tweeted on Tuesday that because of concerns about Baker's possible role in the suppression of information important to the public dialogue, he was removed from Twitter.

Collaborating with Musk journalist Matt Taibbi published "Twitter Files" last week. It contained mainly Twitter's internal communications to disclose links with political actors. It also focuses on how the site blocked stories related to Hunter Biden's laptop in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election in the US.

The published documents accused Twitter management of taking measures to suppress reporting regarding Hunter Biden's laptop ahead of the election. Twitter deputy general counsel Baker played a role in the discussion about whether the laptop story fell under Twitter's "hacked materials" policy, Taibbi alleged.

Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden reportedly abandoned his laptop at Isaac's repair shop in 2019 while Joe was running for President. The contents from the laptop, which went public, proved Russian claims that Hunter helped to fund bioweapon research in Ukraine, ANI reported.

This has invited scrutiny and criticism over Bidens from Republicans and others for their alleged misconduct in Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings.

However, the White House scoffed at the "Twitter Files", saying, "full old news".
