Google appoints Preeti Lobana as Country Manager and VP for India
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Google announced on Monday the appointment of Preeti Lobana as the new Country Manager and Vice President for India. Lobana succeeds Sanjay Gupta, who has moved to an elevated role as the President of the Asia Pacific region at Google.
In her new role, Lobana will be pivotal in shaping Google’s strategy to harness the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for customers in India. According to a Google release, she will focus on fostering innovation and driving the company’s commitment to India’s growing digital economy.
Lobana brings with her over eight years of experience at Google, where she previously served as Vice President of Customer-Centric Solutions. In this capacity, she spearheaded Google India's sales and operations and now takes the lead on advancing the company’s footprint in India. Her extensive background will be instrumental in driving Google’s AI advancements, including the integration of technologies like Gemini 2.0 to foster digital inclusion and unlock new economic opportunities for India’s diverse population.
Sanjay Gupta, Google’s President for Asia Pacific, expressed his enthusiasm about Lobana's appointment, stating that India’s digital landscape has greatly inspired innovation within the company. He noted that with AI reshaping possibilities, Lobana’s leadership will be crucial to advancing Google's engagement with India’s ecosystem.
Lobana’s career spans over 30 years in senior leadership roles across the technology and financial sectors, offering a deep understanding of India’s rapidly evolving market. Before joining Google, she held significant positions at NatWest Group, American Express, Standard Chartered Bank, and ANZ Grindlays Bank, where she specialized in business strategy, product management, and operational excellence.
In addition to her leadership role at Google, Lobana will collaborate closely with Roma Datta Chobey, the interim Country Manager, who will continue her leadership as Managing Director for Google India’s Digital Native Industries.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Lobana is known for driving business transformation and operational excellence. In her new role, she is set to lead Google's continued efforts in India, capitalizing on both the country’s dynamic spirit and Google’s cutting-edge technology.
Lobana expressed her excitement about stepping into the role, stating, “India’s dynamic spirit and Google’s cutting-edge technology create a powerful synergy, and I’m excited to lead Google’s efforts here.”
