San Francisco: Elon Musk said on Wednesday in six months his company Neuralink would implant a device into the human brain to enable thoughts to directly communicate with computers.

Tech billionaire, who is known to be toying with several such ambitious ideas, said he would get one of the chips himself, according to the news agency AFP.

He told a company presentation that most of the paperwork for the chip had been submitted to the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

"We've been working hard to be ready for our first human (implant), and obviously we want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device in a human," he reportedly said.

Musk previously announced several ambitious plans including space tourism with many not becoming reality or still in their incessant stage.

Most recently in 2019, he said Neuralink would conduct its first test on humans in 2020, according to the report.

A prototype with a size of a coin implanted in the skulls of monkeys reportedly enabled the animals "playing" basic video games or move a cursor on a screen.

Musk claimed that the implant would help restore vision and mobility in humans.

The device he said would enable someone with no ability to move their muscle to operate their phone faster than others.

Synchron, another company to work on a similar project, said in July of having implanted the first brain-machine interface in the United States.
