Never sleep beside phones while charging them: Apple warns

New York: Leading phone maker Apple advised customers not to fall asleep beside their phones while charging the gadgets.

The advisory pointed at the dangerous habit of users falling asleep holding their phones in the middle of using.

The warnings issued on the company’s online user guide asked users to charge phones only on flat surfaces, to safely emit heat.

Charge phones exclusively in well-ventilated and on flat surfaces like tables, the guidelines said.

The company discouraged charging phones on soft surfaces such as blankets, pillows, or body.

The guidelines are relevant given the frequent incidences of phones exploding or catching fire, often causing serious burns to users.

Charging iPhones in confined places is risky as heat is produced during the process, the guidelines reportedly said, adding that the habit carries the risk of igniting fires.

Charging a phone placing it beneath pillow is one of the most unsafe practices many users engage in.

‘Don't sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body, when it's connected to a power source. Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging. Take special care if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body,’ the guidelines said.

Users should be wary of charging phone with damaged cables, chargers, and charge as moisture is present, according to the report.
