San Jose: American computer software company Adobe is now incorporating AI tools into its flagship product Photoshop.

Artificial intelligence technology will be used to generate imagery while editing images. It is aimed at making work faster for creative professionals and not replacing graphic artists, said the company.

The suite of AI programmes is called 'Firefly' and it was created with legal-to-use image data. This means it can be used in commercial settings. One of the features will be called 'Generative Fill' which will allow users to extend an original image that was cropped in too closely with computer-generated content. It can also be used to add features based on a text description. For example, it can take a photo of one flower and turn it into a field of flowers. You can also add a mountain range in the distance behind it.

Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer for digital media, insisted that the tool is not being introduced to replace graphic artists but to make the work faster for them. They can create new images out of multiple ideas.

"In the past, they would have had to spend valuable hours searching photo archives and stitching together pieces of existing images by hand. This just dramatically accelerates that production work," said the executive.
