PV Sindhu to lead India's campaign at BWF Singapore Open 2024
text_fieldsIndia's premier shuttler PV Sindhu is set to lead the Indian contingent at the Singapore Badminton Open 2024 BWF Super 750 tournament.
Sindhu, aiming to end her title drought in Singapore, heads to the tournament following her impressive performance at the Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur.
In the men's doubles competition, India's top duo Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will be the top seeds. They are in pursuit of their third title of the season, having already clinched victories at the French and Thailand Open.
The tournament will feature a host of global badminton stars, including reigning Olympic singles champions Viktor Axelsen and Chen Yufei. Axelsen, who recently secured the men's singles title at the Malaysia Masters by defeating Malaysian ace Lee Zii Jia, is the top seed in Singapore. The world No. 1 from Denmark will look to continue his winning streak as he begins his campaign against India's Lakshya Sen, the Commonwealth Games champion.
Lee Zii Jia, currently ranked tenth in the world, aims for a third consecutive final after reaching the title matches in Thailand and Malaysia earlier this month.
Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, the two-time defending Singapore Open men's singles champion, is seeded seventh, while his Indonesian compatriot, Jonatan Christie, the reigning All-England champion, is seeded third.
Former world champion Loh Kean Yew will represent the home challenge and is set to face China's Lu Guangzu in his opening match.
In the women's singles, Republic of Korea's An Seyoung will defend her title as the top seed. Reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei and Rio 2016 gold medalist Carolina Marin are seeded second and third, respectively. Tai Tzu-Ying, originally seeded fourth, has withdrawn from the tournament.
China's Wang Zhiyi, who recently defeated India's PV Sindhu to win the Malaysia Masters, is seeded seventh.
In women's doubles, Tokyo 2020 silver medalists Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China are the No. 1 seeds. The Paris 2024-bound Australian women's doubles pair Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu will also compete at the Singapore Open 2024.
