Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cricket Association is preparing to build a new cricket stadium in Kochi to fire up Kerala's cricketing dreams. The 'Cochin Sports City' is to be constructed on 40 acres of land near the Nedumbassery airport, which will include an international standard cricket stadium.

Kerala Cricket Association President Jayesh George submitted the project blueprint estimating Rs 2000 crores to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the inauguration of the Global Sports Summit held at Karyavattom.

Apart from the 40,000-seat stadium, Cochin Sports City will also have facilities like indoor and outdoor training facilities, a training ground, a sports academy and research centre, an eco-park, a water sports park, a sports medicine and fitness centre, an e-sports arena, an entertainment zone and a clubhouse.

With the completion of the stadium, Kochi will become the country's first carbon-neutral sports city. Apart from Cochin Sports City, KCA will also build three first-class cricket grounds in Kollam, Kottayam and Kozhikode districts. The Kerala Cricket Association has also expressed its interest in running the Karyavattom Greenfield Stadium for 33 years before the state government.
