New Delhi: Indian women’s hockey team chief coach Harendra Singh resigned from his post on Monday with immediate effect, citing personal reasons.

According to sources, Harendra communicated his decision to Hockey India via e-mail, informing the apex body of his resignation.

Sources further indicated that Dutch tactician Sjoerd Marijne, who previously led the team to a fourth-place finish at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, could return as chief coach. Marijne had stepped down from the role in August 2021.

Harendra Singh, who assumed the post of chief coach in April 2024, had earlier coached India’s junior men’s team to a World Cup victory in 2016 in Lucknow and also served as coach of the United States men’s hockey team.

The Indian women’s team has struggled over the past year, recording just two wins in 16 matches in the FIH Pro League 2024-25 and failing to qualify for the next season.
