Sri Lanka offers free entry for India Test series to boost crowds

Colombo: The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced free admission for fans to the upcoming two-Test series against India, dropping ticket charges in an effort to revive dwindling crowds at Test matches and bring greater energy to the stands.
The move gives cricket fans a valuable opportunity to watch Shubman Gill’s India take on Sri Lanka live without paying for entry. Sri Lanka Cricket said the initiative is also intended to encourage young cricketers and allow families to experience the excitement of Test cricket together.
The first Test will begin on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium. With spectator turnout for Test cricket remaining a concern, the board has chosen to forgo ticket revenue in favour of filling the galleries and creating a more vibrant atmosphere around the series.
India and Sri Lanka are already preparing for the contest, with the Indian team currently facing a Sri Lanka XI in a three-day warm-up match in Colombo ahead of the Tests. India captain Shubman Gill has been unable to make a significant impact in the practice game after suffering a finger injury.
Both teams are stepping up preparations as the highly anticipated Test series approaches.
