A significant betting racket tied to the T20 cricket World Cup, valued at ₹15 crore, has been dismantled by police in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

This illicit operation dealt in multiple currencies, including dollars, dirhams, and pounds from seven different countries.

The main suspect, identified as Piyish Chopra, managed to evade arrest. However, nine other individuals from Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh have been detained. Those arrested include Jasprit Singh, Rohit Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Mayur Jain, Satprit Singh, Akash Masihi, Chetan Negi, Harish Teli, and Gaurav Jain.

Inspector General Kumar Singh reported that the gang operated out of Chopra's residence in Dreams Colony, within the jurisdiction of the Neelganga police station. The police conducted a raid on Thursday night during the T20 match between Bangladesh and the Netherlands.

During the raid, authorities seized ₹14.58 crore in cash, along with a significant amount of foreign currency and numerous electronic gadgets. Given the substantial scale of the racket, state police plan to notify the Income Tax Department, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and other relevant agencies for further investigation.

In an effort to apprehend the remaining suspects, state police have alerted their counterparts in various states. This case highlights the extensive reach and complexity of the illegal betting network, which spanned multiple regions and involved substantial financial dealings in international currencies.
