During the first Test against South Africa, Rishabh Pant became the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to record 100 dismissals in a long-format match.

Pant made history by dismissing his 100th opponent in his 26th Test at the SuperSport Park, breaking the record owned by former India captain MS Dhoni and Wriddhiman Saha. To achieve the milestone, he caught Temba Bavuma from Mohammed Shami's bowling. Dhoni and Saha had achieved the same feat in 36 Test matches.

Taking three catches and dismissing Dean Elgar, Bavuma, and Wiaan Mulder on Day 3 over the Boxing Day Test let Pant surpass his idol, MS Dhoni.

Among the Indians, Dhoni leads with 294 dismissals, followed by Syed Kirmani (198), Kiran More (130), Nayan Mongia (107), and Wriddhiman Saha (104)
