Breach Of Central Contract Clause : BCCI to summon Saha over comments on Ganguly and Dravid

Since such behavior is not appropriate for a centrally contracted player, the BCCI is likely to talk to veteran keeper Wriddhiman Saha about his outburst following being dropped from the Indian team.

There is a clause 6.3 in the central contracts that players sign (Saha's annual retainership is 3 crores) which has apparently been violated.

According to clause 6.3 of the players' central contract "Player shall not make any comments about the game, officials, incidents that happened in the game, use of technology, selection matters or any other matter related to the game which is in opinion of the BCCI is adverse to and /or not in the interest of the game, team or BCCI in any media...." Media reports have referred to Saha's comments related to his selection and private conversations with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and head coach Rahul Dravid.

Having ended his international career due to the desire of the management to groom a younger keeper, the 37-year-old has since come forward publicly to release whatsapp messages, allegedly from a journalist, that he deemed "threat-like".

Despite asking Saha to identify the journalist, the BCCI is not happy with the way he has publicized a conversation he had with Dravid and how he has referred to a message from its president.

As a centrally contracted player, Wriddhiman can be asked how he spoke about selection matters by BCCI, Arun Dhumal said.

"As far as the president is concerned, he had tried to motivate him. The board might like to know what made him go public with his dressing room conversations with coach Dravid." So will BCCI serve a formal showcause notice or ask him verbally about the issue? "We haven't yet decided on the matter. We are all busy but a call will be taken on a few days," he commented

Saha has certainly damaged his image a bit after making his conversations with Dravid public, according to many BCCI members.

Earlier, Rahul Dravid stated that he was not hurt, but just wanted to clear the communication with the player. It was a private conversation and even if he had been hurt, he should have kept quiet. The incident showed Dravid in a bad light," a BCCI official said.
